CHESTER COUNTY CITIZENS FOR CLIMATE PROTECTION
80% GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REDUCTION BY 2050
TOP TEN: WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Communicate frequently to local businesses and to our media that our County must achieve 80% by 2050 through a 2% annual change.
- Purchase renewable electricity. An average household powered with renewable electricity will emit 30% to 40% less GHG per person.
- Drive wisely by properly maintaining your vehicle and plan driving routes to save time and gas. An average household, using vehicles that get 30 mpg, will emit 11% less GHG, and the same household using 40 mpg vehicles will emit 16% less GHG per person.
- To find your starting point for reducing your annual GHG burden, check out an online CO2 footprint calculator, and have a home energy audit performed.
- Make your home a modern Energy Star home by upgrading your appliances, heating/cooling systems, lighting, and the building envelope itself. The more improvements you make, the more comfortable your home will be, and the more energy dollars you will save. Your renovated home could save 50% or more in yearly operating costs and GHG emissions.
- Install geothermal heating/cooling systems that significantly reduce energy use by the home, and operate on renewable electricity. Where suitable, install solar thermal water heating and photovoltaics to make your roof a clean energy provider.
- Attend township and school board meetings to support green infrastructure including public buildings that use modern design, construction and operation. New green buildings use 30% to 50% less energy and cost less in total ownership costs--saving your tax dollar.
